Pause Breathing Mala — Clear Quartz, Pink Agate & White Jade

A small mala to carry with you, so you can return to the body one breath at a time.

Created to make mindful breathing simple and tangible, this Pause Breathing Mala guides your practice without the need to count. Let the beads slide through your fingers and, when they change shape or size, move into the next phase of the breath.

A light, practical, and quiet tool to help you slow down, regain clarity, and create a small space before acting, speaking, or making a decision.

The Stones

The Meru and the Beginning of the Practice

Begin at the meru, made from a natural soapberry seed.

Before changing your breath, pause for a moment and simply notice it as it is. Observe its rhythm, depth, and movement without trying to control or improve it.

When you feel ready, move to the top of the mala, where a single white jade bead marks the opening exhalation and the beginning of the guided sequence.

Soapberry Seed Meru — Pause and Observe

The natural soapberry seed marks the beginning and completion of the practice. It invites you to pause, feel the mala in your hand, and observe your breath without changing it.

White Jade — Opening Exhale and Exhalation

A single white jade bead begins the guided practice with a slow exhalation. White jade also accompanies each six-count exhale, the longest phase of the practice.

It is traditionally associated with serenity, harmony, and gentle clarity, inviting you to soften and release what is no longer needed.

Clear Quartz — Inhale

Clear quartz accompanies the four-count inhale, inviting the breath to move gradually into the body.

It is traditionally associated with clarity, focus, and intention.

Pink Agate — Hold

Pink agate marks the gentle two-count pause after the inhale. It invites you to remain present without reacting immediately, while keeping the body soft and relaxed.

It is traditionally associated with emotional balance, stability, and gentle grounding.

How to Follow the Mala

Begin with the soapberry seed meru and take a moment to notice your natural breathing.

Then move to the single white jade bead at the top of the mala and exhale slowly.

Continue through the sequence:

Clear quartz — inhale for 4: I receive
Pink agate — hold for 2: I do not react immediately
White jade — exhale for 6: I let go

Allow the changing stones, shapes, and sizes to guide your fingers from one phase of the breath to the next, without needing to count mentally.

The Pause Breathing Practice

This mala supports a gentle 4–2–6 breathing practice designed to create space between stimulus and response.

The longer exhalation encourages the body to soften and can make it easier to interrupt automatic reactions. The practice can be especially helpful when you feel the need to slow down, regain clarity, or pause before responding.

The three phases of the breath are paired with a simple intention:

Inhale for 4 — I receive
Hold for 2 — I do not react immediately
Exhale for 6 — I let go

The beads are arranged so that touch can guide you through each phase without the need to count mentally. Slide your fingers over the beads and, when they change shape or size, move gently into the next part of the breath.

How to Practice

Sit with your back comfortably upright, without rigidity.

Rest your hands on your thighs and relax your shoulders, jaw, and face. Close your eyes if that feels natural, or keep a soft gaze in front of you.

Begin by exhaling slowly through the mouth, allowing the air to leave without forcing it.

Then continue with the following rhythm:

1. Inhale

Breathe in through the nose for a slow count of four. Allow the breath to fill the abdomen first and then the chest.

2. Hold

Hold the breath gently for a count of two. Keep the body soft rather than tense.

3. Exhale

Breathe out slowly through the mouth for a count of six.

Let each exhalation become a moment of release, as though the body were becoming a little lighter with every breath.

Continue for approximately five minutes, or for as long as feels comfortable.

One bead after another.
One breath after another.
One small space before the next response.

After the Practice

Before returning to your activities, take a moment to notice the body.

Observe whether anything has changed in the rhythm of your breathing, muscular tension, the quality of your thoughts, or your sense of presence.

You can use the mala for a complete breathing practice, for just a few cycles during the day, or as a half mala for mantra, sankalpa, and brief meditations.

Composition & Care Instructions

Hand-knotted with 100% natural, untreated, and undyed gemstones. Crafted with ultra-durable cord and finished with stainless steel or nickel- and lead-free alloy components.

Even though all Samdea malas and bracelets arrive at your home already cleansed and energetically charged, it's natural to feel the need to renew their energy over time — and I always recommend doing so.

To maintain the sacred energy of your mala, purify it regularly by placing it under the light of the full moon or using a selenite bowl. Shield it from harsh chemicals and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve its spiritual potency.
