How to Choose Your Crystals
Choosing the right crystals is a deeply personal journey. Each stone carries its own history and symbolism, and finding the one that speaks to you can become a beautiful companion on your path of growth and transformation.

My Story: How I Discovered the World of Crystals
Years ago, after losing my first mala, I tried to recreate it by choosing a stone linked to my zodiac sign. Following online advice, I selected black onyx for Capricorn. That same week turned out to be a rough one — restless nights, a mind that wouldn't quiet down. I don't know if the stone had anything to do with it. But I remember setting the mala aside, almost as an experiment, and noticing that things settled.
That small act of listening to myself — of choosing what to wear and what to set aside — marked the beginning of my journey with crystals, and eventually, the creation of Samdea Mala.
Since then, the question I hear most often is: "How do I choose my stones?"
The truth is, there is no universal answer. Every journey is unique.
How to Choose Your Stones
You can choose a stone based on resonance, selecting one that reflects your current strengths and qualities. Or you can choose based on compensation, looking for a stone that supports you in areas you wish to grow.
Some people enjoy combining astrology and crystal wisdom, selecting stones traditionally associated with their zodiac sign. However, there is no single definitive list, and interpretations vary across cultures and traditions.
The important thing is this: the right crystal is the one that feels right to you.
The History of Zodiac Stones
The connection between stones and zodiac signs dates back thousands of years, with roots in the Breastplate of Aaron, an ancient biblical artifact described in the Book of Exodus — twelve stones representing the twelve tribes of Israel. The link to the zodiac itself came later, through the writings of Josephus in the 1st century and St. Jerome in the 5th. Over the centuries, different cultures and scholars have interpreted these connections in their own way, leading to real variation in the stones associated with each sign.
Modern lists often blend that older tradition with more contemporary crystal wisdom. While zodiac stones offer a beautiful starting point, your own instinct and current life phase matter just as much, if not more.

Trusting Your Intuition (and Asking for Guidance)
Many experts suggest that the most reliable way to choose your crystal is simply to follow your intuition — to notice which stone you feel drawn to.
And while intuition matters, sometimes it helps to have company along the way.
