Why I Created It

A small mala to carry with you, so you can return to the body one breath at a time. I created this Pause Breathing Mala to make mindful breathing simple and tangible, guiding the practice through touch alone, without the need to count.

Let the beads slide through your fingers and, when they change shape or size, move into the next phase of the breath: a light, practical, and discreet tool to help you slow down, regain clarity, and create a small space before acting, speaking, or making a decision.

Materials & Meaning

Before changing your breath, pause for a moment and simply observe it as it is — its rhythm, its depth, its movement — without trying to control or improve it. Then, when you feel ready, follow the beads through one full cycle of the practice.

Fluorite (8 mm) — Inhale. Fluorite accompanies the four-count inhale, inviting the breath to enter the body gradually. It is traditionally associated with mental clarity and focus — its name rooted in the Latin fluere, "to flow," for its historical use as a flux that helped metals melt and move together. Prized for its banded, translucent colors, it is sometimes called the "Genius Stone," a fitting companion for the breath that opens the practice.

Burmese White Jade — Hold. White jade marks the short two-count pause after the inhale, inviting you to remain present without reacting immediately, while keeping the body soft. Treasured for thousands of years, jade is traditionally associated with purity, serenity, and quiet strength — qualities suited to the still point of the practice, when nothing is added and nothing yet released.

Clear Quartz (6 mm) — Exhale. Clear quartz guides the six-count exhale, the longest phase of the practice. Ancient Greeks called it krystallos, believing it to be water frozen so deeply it could never melt. Traditionally associated with clarity and lightness, its transparency mirrors the openness needed to let the breath go fully.

How to Use It

Take one initial exhalation, then move to the first bead and follow the sequence: inhale for 4 — I receive; hold for 2 — I do not react immediately; exhale for 6 — I let go. Let the changing stones, shapes, and sizes guide your fingers from one phase of the breath to the next, without needing to count mentally.

Sit with your back comfortably upright, hands resting on your thighs, shoulders and jaw relaxed. Continue for about five minutes, or for as long as feels comfortable — one bead after another, one breath after another, one small space before the next response.

You can use the mala for a complete breathing practice, for just a few cycles during the day, or as a half mala for mantra, sankalpa, and brief meditations.

Authenticity

This mala is created by me, Cristina, one bead at a time.

Composition & Care Instructions

Hand-knotted with 100% natural, untreated, and undyed gemstones. Crafted with ultra-durable cord and finished with stainless steel or nickel- and lead-free alloy components.

Your Samdea mala arrives ready to accompany you. Over time, you may feel the wish to renew the ritual that connects you to it — a few quiet minutes with a soft cloth, a moment to restate why you wear it.

It's not about restoring an energy the mala has lost; it's about returning, again, to the intention you first placed in it.

Keep it away from harsh chemicals and prolonged direct sunlight, simply to preserve the materials over time.
