Why I created this mala

This sphatik mala is inspired by one of the most beloved mantras in Buddhism and yoga: Om Mani Padme Hum, the mantra of universal compassion. Often translated as "the jewel in the lotus," it points to awareness that can emerge even through life's most difficult moments. The Dalai Lama has described this mantra as containing the essence of the Buddha's teachings, tracing a path from suffering toward awakening.

Materials and meaning

Made with 108 prayer beads of natural clear quartz — also known as "Vajra Crystal" in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition — this mala is traditionally associated with clarity and inner purity. The deep red cord is traditionally linked to protective compassion, and the tassel echoes the robes worn by Tibetan monks.

The guru bead is made of garnet, a stone traditionally associated with steadiness during emotionally difficult moments.

A small lotus charm is traditionally associated with purity and the unfolding of consciousness, while a tiny Buddha bead sits alongside it as a quiet reminder of the awakened mind at the heart of the mantra.

Mantra practice with this mala can support a return to presence, one repetition at a time — the beads are there to hold the count so your attention can stay with the words.
