Rainbow Moonstone Mala Necklace with Aqua Aura Quartz – 108 Hand-Knotted Prayer Beads

Why I created this mala

I made this mala necklace around a stone I keep coming back to: rainbow moonstone, with its quiet flashes of light that shift as you move it. It's paired with a single Aqua Aura quartz meru bead at the center, a small point of bright blue among 108 softer, pearly beads. If you're drawn to pieces that feel gentle rather than heavy, and you like a mala light enough to wear all day, this is one to consider.

The stone and its meaning

Rainbow moonstone reveals delicate flashes of light that shift as it catches different angles — a quality gemologists call adularescence. In Hindu mythology, moonstone was traditionally said to be formed from solidified moonbeams, and across several cultures it has long been associated with intuition, inner listening, emotional awareness, and new beginnings. Here, it works less as a promise and more as an invitation — something to hold onto while paying attention to what's gradually emerging in you.

At the center of the mala, the Aqua Aura quartz meru bead creates a bright blue focal point. It's traditionally associated with spaciousness, clear expression, and the ability to see beyond a familiar perspective. I want to be upfront about this stone: Aqua Aura doesn't occur in nature in this color. It's clear quartz bonded with a thin layer of gold, which produces its luminous blue, iridescent finish — so its beauty comes from that process, not from the stone itself.

The smaller 6 mm beads give this hand-knotted mala a light, refined feel while keeping the traditional structure of 108 prayer beads. You can use it for meditation, mantra repetition, breathwork, mindfulness, or simply as spiritual jewelry that keeps your intention close through the day.

Each bead is knotted individually, which creates a small pause between one bead and the next — the knots help the hands move slowly and consciously through the practice, one bead at a time.

The stones on this mala are genuine, untreated gemstones — not dyed, not heat-treated to alter their color, with the one honest exception noted above: the Aqua Aura meru, whose color comes from a metallic coating rather than the stone's natural state. The mala is hand-knotted on a resistant cord, built to hold up under daily wear, and the stainless steel details are nickel- and lead-free, so they're gentle on sensitive skin.

Natural stones are never perfectly identical. Small variations in color, transparency, inclusions, and flash are part of their natural origin and make each mala genuinely its own.
