Astrology and the Inner Journey: Finding Your Way Back to Yourself

According to Umberto Galimberti, from a psychological point of view, the horoscope is “the image of the personality and the subsequent modifications deduced from the relationship between birth and certain astral configurations.” The underlying assumption is the intimate connection between human beings and the cosmos, between microcosm and macrocosm.
[Dictionary of Psychology, UTET, 1992]

Solar astrology, widely known in the West, primarily describes our personality, our inclinations, and the aspects we are called to work on. It shows how each sign expresses its energy and authority in the world—but it does not explain how to transform this information into a tool for personal growth. It does not show the inner work each of us must undertake.

Given that the goal of every human being is spiritual maturity, it is clear that each of us starts from a different place on the map of life. Each journey is unique, because every soul has its own distance to cover toward the same center: balance and wisdom.

As I often argue, there are many ways to reach the same destination. None of them are "right" or "wrong" in an absolute sense—only more or less aligned with who we truly are. Each zodiac sign, with its gifts and challenges, offers specific keys to evolution if we know how to use them consciously.

Every tendency, every trait, can be seen as higher or lower, more or less mature, depending on whether it brings us closer or further away from our true essence. Awareness of our qualities, abilities, and limits is the beginning of every significant journey. But knowing is not enough: sooner or later, we must set off.

Astrology as a Mystical Science

In ancient times, astrology was considered a sacred science, guiding human beings toward freedom, maturity, and enlightenment. Through understanding and accepting the subtle influences of the stars, individuals could strengthen their inner journey toward liberation.

The greatest lesson? Within the "weaknesses" of each sign lie its hidden strengths.

Starting from solar astrology—how humans assert their presence in the world—we can begin a deeper inner work, a spiritual alchemy that leads toward a higher dimension.

The Philosopher’s Stone: A Journey Within

The ancient alchemical motto V.I.T.R.I.O.L.U.M."Visita Interiora Terrae, Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem Veram Medicinam" ("Visit the interior of the Earth, and by rectification, you will find the hidden stone, the true medicine")—is not an invitation to explore the physical world, but a call to descend into the depths of one's own soul.

The "Earth" we must visit is within ourselves. It is the journey to the underworld of our fears, wounds, and defense mechanisms. It is through facing these inner dragons that we uncover the Philosopher's Stone: the divine spark that has always lived within us.

The old Ego must "die"—with its habits, attachments, fears, and illusions—so that our true Self can be reborn.

This path is neither easy nor painless. It demands courage, humility, perseverance, guidance, and above all, sincerity toward oneself. The dragons we fight are far more fearsome than any mythical creature.

Astrology as a Map for the Soul

The highest purpose of astrology—especially of esoteric astrology—is self-knowledge.

At the moment of birth, every soul crosses the threshold of life with a unique imprint: its Karma, its Dharma, its mission, its lessons. Every individual has positive and negative traits to work with, not to judge themselves, but to better fulfill their role in their own growth and in the collective journey of humanity.

By knowing ourselves—our tendencies, our wounds, our light—we can become active co-creators of our path.

Astrology, once considered a sacred science, reminds us that growth, freedom, and enlightenment are not gifts granted from the outside, but inner victories born of awareness and transformation.

As Swami Kriyananda beautifully said:
"This is the science of yoga, known in India since ancient times as the science of inner astrology."
